An Oahu grand jury has indicted a second man in connection with the severe beating of a 45-year-old pedestrian near Ala Moana Center last month.
Daniel Jacob Miyamoto, 31, was charged with hindering prosecution and third-degree assault yesterday. The charges are in addition to the second-degree attempted murder charges filed against Maurice Shigeo Nakama, 25, in the beating of Murray Wallace Oct. 22.
According to police, Wallace and his wife, Alice, were crossing Kapiolani Boulevard at Mahukona Street at about 10:30 p.m. Wallace asked Miyamoto, the driver of a car that stopped in the middle of a crosswalk, to reverse so his wife, who was wearing a leg brace, could cross the street.
Miyamoto allegedly refused to move and argued with Wallace, according to police.
Miyamoto and his passenger, Nakama, drove off but returned, police said. Miyamoto allegedly held Alice Wallace while Nakama allegedly repeatedly punched her husband in the head, beating him unconscious, according to a police affidavit.
Murray Wallace suffered severe head and brain injuries and remains hospitalized.
Miyamoto was charged with third-degree assault for allegedly holding Alice Wallace and with hindering the prosecution of Nakama.
