HIFF hosting Jackson party
The Hawaii International Film Festival's "An Evening with
Samuel L. Jackson" is Friday at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel Monarch Room, with a cocktail reception from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a 90-minute "conversation" with the actor. Jackson, who filmed part of his latest picture, "Snakes on a Plane," on Oahu in August, will receive HIFF's inaugural Achievement in Acting Award. Tickets are $20. Visit

BBC2 will film a documentary on the Battle of Midway and Pearl Harbor for the series "20th Century Battles." A seven-member production crew will work on Oahu Nov. 24 to Dec. 4.
