A SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT: Casting director Anna Fishburn, left, congratulated playwright Edward Earl Pickard and cast member Roxanne Fay on Sunday at Hank's Cafe Honolulu after catching Pickard's new play, "Like a Bird," at the ARTS at Marks Garage. Fay gives an engaging performance as Sybil, the weary but loving wife of a gifted but dangerously unstable artist who has committed himself to a mental hospital. Now his fate is in Sybil's hands. Will she allow experimental treatments that could destroy her husband's ability to create? Pickard's play, based on a true story, explores the thin lines between imagination, genius, insanity and art in thought-provoking style. It closes with shows at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow and 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 521-2903.

A GREAT MADMAN: Hank Taufaasau, right, welcomed "Like a Bird" star Gerald Altwies to the Sunday cast party. Altwies is magnificent as a deeply conflicted artist who might not be as insane as he seems but who also might not be aware of the danger he is in. The small size of the performance area allows the audience to catch every nuance of Altwies' performance.
