Costume contest canceled
The Halloween costume contest at Ala Wai Community Park has been canceled. It had been scheduled for tomorrow night.

Happy Hallo-Wine
Raise a glass to Halloween and help out the Windward YMCA at Saturday's Hallo-Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, 6 to 9 p.m. at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Costumes are optional, but those who do dress up can enter a costume contest.
Kalapawai Market in Lanikai is donating the wine and leading a blind tasting. Donations are being accepted for the benefit auction.
Cost is $40, to benefit the YMCA's financial aid fund that helps children, teens and adults attend YMCA programs.

Flavors of the Philippines: Caterer Bernadette Benigno teaches how to make several home-style dishes and more unusual treats; 6 p.m. Nov. 14. Cost is $45.
Holiday Potluck!: Chef Nina Jarrett shares recipes and tips for those Thanksgiving and Christmas parties; 6 p.m. Nov. 7. Cost is $45.
Guilt-Free Holiday Dishes: Alyssa Moreau provides low-fat, low-sodium alternatives to traditional meals; 8 a.m. Nov. 19. Cost is $45.
Baking for the Holidays: Learn to make KCC's scones, biscuits and other baked goods; 8 a.m. Nov. 19. Cost is $55.
Professional Butchery II: Three-day course for food-service professionals; 5 p.m. Nov. 7, 14 and 21. Chef Dale Thomas teaches advanced techniques for preparing meats, poultry and fish for restaurant service. He also will teach product identification, yields, meal planning and cost control. Chef knife, boning knife, honing steel and scimitar required. Cost is $180; $100 for culinary students.
