Calling all voices
Hawaii Repertory Theatre is holding auditions for the 2006 season, 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Princess Abigail Kawananakoa Auditorium, 49 Funchal St.
Come prepared to sing 16 bars of a musical theater selection of your choice. Bring cassette tape or CD accompaniment. A piano will be available for those providing their own accompanist.
Cold readings from scripts will also be required. Bring a head shot and résumé if available. All ages are invited to audition. Call 428-4948.

Celebrate solstice
Chanting, dance, poetry, drumming and visual art are all elements of the annual Winter Solstice Fire Tribe Gathering.
The festival runs from Dec. 14 to 18 and focuses on dark-to-dawn magic fire circles, a large area defined by a ring of torches and prayer flags, with a continuous ceremony of music, dance, song and ritual theater.
The gathering's focus is on celebration, creativity and spirituality and is open to families with children 6 years and older. Space is limited to 150 individuals.

COMING UP
A day of discovery
Punahou School's Science Center hosts the Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery, free interactive exhibits and workshops from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The workshops are geared for students in grades 4 and up, teachers and parents. Topics include bottle rockets, electrical experiments, Lego sumo robots, using GPS and water gadgets.
Nainoa Thompson of the Polynesian Voyaging Society and Donna Kahakui of Kai Makana (Ocean Education) will be keynote speakers. Four "Mad Scientists" will perform science magic at day's end.
