SCHOOL COLLECTS TOYS FOR IRAQI KIDS

Rep. Cynthia Thielen, right, and teacher Kathleen Nullet carried a box of donated stuffed animals to a classroom yesterday during the Teddy Bear Drive at Kailua Intermediate School. The donated toys will be shipped to a Marine Corps staff sergeant stationed in Fallujah, Iraq, for distribution to hundreds of needy children in the area. The school also accepted soccer balls and money toward the purchase of 250 additional balls for Iraqi schoolchildren.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

About 200 community members helped clean the grounds around the Manoa Valley Theatre yesterday, including grave sites, as part of "Make A Difference Day." Aaron Davis, 12, his mom, Jean Davis, and Tony Davis, 8, in background, helped clear the cemetery area. The annual day for national volunteer work takes place the fourth Saturday in October.
