At least car thieves could wise up
Note to car thieves: Be careful out there! Many of the vehicles you're looking to boost have kids in them.
You know what happens then: islandwide alerts, a manhunt, the whole shebang. Not like if you just grab an empty car left idling. That's a routine police report.
Not that I'm condoning stealing cars. But this is about kids.
So why am I talking to you, a self-serving car thief, about all this? Why not the parents who leave their kids in idling cars?
Well, we've tried. And tried. Newspapers, TV, radio, just about every way we can think of. Not working. Four times this year it has happened. So I figure I'll have better luck with you, the thief. If you're alert enough to scope out an unattended car left with the motor running, maybe at least YOU will be paying attention.
Next time you see another idling target of opportunity -- and it seems there WILL be a next time -- would you mind checking the back seat first? You'll save everyone, including yourself, a lot of grief.
