Hawaii head baseball coach Mike Trapasso announced yesterday he has promoted Keith Komeiji to assistant coach.
Komeiji has served as a volunteer coach the past four seasons, working with the catchers and hitters and coordinating the Rainbow baseball camps.
Last summer he coached the Waikiki Surfers in the Hawaii Collegiate Summer League.
"We're very happy to elevate Keith," Trapasso said. "He has done an outstanding job the last four years and has earned this opportunity with his hard work."
Komeiji played for Hawaii in 1983 and was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 1983 draft. He played in the Mariners organization for six seasons. The Kaiser graduate served as an assistant coach at Iolani from 1995 to 2000 and was an assistant coach with the Hawaii Island Movers from 1999 to 2002.
He replaces assistant and third-base coach Travis Janssen, whose contract was not renewed.
