Vulcans 23rd in preseason basketball poll

The Hawaii-Hilo basketball team is ranked 23rd in the NCAA Division II Bulletin preseason poll.

"It's a good sign that the program is accepted not just in the conference and Hawaii," Vulcans-Hilo coach Jeff Law said. "At least people know who UH-Hilo is. That makes me feel that all the hard work by the coaching staff and administration is starting to show some benefits.

"Preseason stuff doesn't mean much, but you've got to start somewhere."

The Vulcans went 24-3 last season and were ranked eighth in the final NABC Division II rankings. They are also among the favorites to win the Pacific West Conference.

Hawaii-Hilo opens the season with an exhibition against Hawaii on Nov. 11 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
