PET OHANA
Game Day has costume contest
Hawaiian Humane Society
Here's something to howl about! K-9 Game Day at Thomas Square Park is a safe and pet-friendly way to celebrate Halloween. Highlights of the Oct. 29 event include a wide selection of dogs available for adoption and activities for pets and kids.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Hawaiian Humane Society will host the wacky and wild event, including musical hula hoops, obstacle courses and other games. Kids in costume can head for the pumpkin patch for pumpkin decorating and other activities. Each booth will have treats for trick-or-treaters and their dogs.
Feline entrants are also invited to enter the pet costume contest at noon. Prizes including a year's supply of Nutro pet food for the scariest, funniest and best-owner-and-pet-duo costumes.
Santa will pose for FujiFilm's Pictures with Santa Paws -- have a holiday family photo (with pets!) taken by a professional photographer for a $20 donation to the society.
After a hard day of play, dogs can visit the Pooch Parlor for massage, grooming and nail painting. Humans can shop at the K-9 Kiosk and browse a variety of accessories, including anti-bark collars, gentle leaders, cat walking jackets and more. The society's 2006 Pets in Paradise calendar will be on sale, and the all-new 2006 collector's edition Adopt-a-Dog shirts created by Crazy Shirts will be available.
Parking is available at Blaisdell Center for a $4 flat rate; street parking is free.
