Pamper yourself

The YWCA of Oahu's "Downtown Decadence" event will be an evening of food, festivity and pampering, celebrating the spirit and strength of women.

The event takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 27, with proceeds going toward improving economic advancement and leadership opportunities for Hawaii's women.

The event will include champagne, wine and martini bars courtesy of Southern Wine & Spirits; pupus from Cafe Laniakea; makeovers, mini-manicures, massages and hairstyling; and a silent auction of jewelry, clothing, vintage treasures and gift certificates.

A highlight will be Macy's "Day of the Empowered Wo-man" fashion show. Melveen Leed and Cathy Foy will also entertain.

Admission of $50 ($25 tax deductible) includes two drinks. Call 538-7061, ext. 234. The YWCA is at 1010 Richards St. Valet parking will be available.

Museum viewing

Teachers will be given a sneak peek at Bishop Museum's new Science Adventure Center at the museum's sixth annual "Educators Evening," open to public and private school teachers from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26.

The teachers will be able to visit interactive exhibits introducing such museum programs as Science Outreach, Ola Na Mo'olelo Cultural Outreach, sleepovers, Lending Box, Planetarium and Starlab shows. One teacher will win a free trip to the museum for his or her class or exhibition group.
