Keeping tabs on Escama bags
"Escama." It's Portuguese for fish scales, which is what recycled aluminum soft-drink can tabs look like when woven into a line of handbags and messenger bags.
Escama is also the name of the line hand-crocheted in Brazil by the women of the Cie do Lacre and 100 Dimenso Cooperatives of Brazilia, incorporating those otherwise useless and ubiquitous remnants of thirst.
INTO, the furnishing and accessory store at 40 N. Hotel St., carries Escama's Socorro shoulder bag and Masha messenger bag at $85 and $159, respectively. Call 536-2211.
