Kop captures sixth senior title
Wendell Kop shot a 71 on the final round of the Senior Men's Invitational to beat defending champion George Yamamoto by three strokes and capture his sixth championship at Oahu Country Club.
Kop, who also won the title in 1991, '94, '97, '00, '02 and '03, played out of the super senior division.
Russ McGarry finished with a 150 to win the senior division (ages 55-64) for the third straight year. McGarry's closest competition came from Barry Schnabel, who missed forcing a playoff by one stroke.
Bruce's Smith's 139 was the low net score in the senior division while George Park beat Tosh Kanehara on the third playoff hole to take the Super Senior Division's Low Net title with a 140.
» The entry deadline for the 2005 Hawaii State Senior Amateur Championship, set to take place Nov. 5-6 at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, is Oct. 22.
Fees for the event are $165. Players will be grouped by age in men's and women's flights with awards for low gross and net awarded for each flight.

Porter joins Schwitters in Hall of Fame
Brigham Young-Hawaii tennis coach Dave Porter was inducted into the United States Professional Tennis Association's Hawaii Division Hall of Fame last night.
Porter is only the second person inducted into the Hawaii division, joining former UH coach Jim Schwitters.
Porter has compiled a 519-107 record in 21 seasons as coach of BYUH's men's team and a 382-13 record in 13 years as coach of the women's team.
City hosts hoops tournament for kids
The City and County of Honolulu will host the National Elks Hoop Shoot Competition at various Oahu parks this fall.
The contest involves boys and girls ages 8 -9, 10-11 and 12-13 making 25 free throws. Winners from each category advance to the citywide competition on Dec. 3. State, regional and national competitions will follow.
