Savor the flavors
The event might be called "Savor the Wine," but you also get to savor martinis, cognac and specialty European beers at the Arthritis Foundation benefit, 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Matters of Taste in the Gentry Pacific Design Center.
But as for those wines, a selection will be offered from Italy, France, and California, provided by L&L Beverage Brokers of Hawaii. Fine cognac from Camus of France and a martini bar will also be offered, as well as gourmet food, a silent auction and music by Heartstrings.
Tickets are $75. Call 596-2900.
Funds raised support local arthritis programs such as a yearly Juvenile Arthritis Conference and Camp, aquatic programs, self-help classes and research.
Diet advice
Dietitian Brenda Davis will discuss the way food choices affect health at this month's meeting of the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii, 7 p.m. Saturday at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park.
Davis has worked in many nutritional specialty areas and is past chairwoman of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association. She has written five books, including "Becoming Vegetarian" and "Defeating Diabetes."
She will talk about ways to modify diets to minimize risk of disease.
