3 hot hip-hop bookings slip
Hip-hop fans could be looking at a spectacular finish to 2005, if all the pieces fall into the right place for one promoter.
You might remember me writing about Devon Bradly, who operates Las Vegas-based Royal Entertainment and who brought Common here last month. During that show, it was announced that De La Soul would perform on Nov. 12.
Well, now it looks like that concert is getting pushed back to December, although an exact date hasn't been announced. An Oct. 29 performance by Jurassic 5 has also been postponed, which brings the total number of shows being rescheduled to three when you add in the canceled Talib Kweli gig.
As soon as I can confirm any new dates, I'll pass them along. Cross your fingers that all of these acts will end up coming out here before the end of the year ...
SCREEN SIGHTINGS: Local mixed martial artist Anthony Torres was eliminated in Monday's episode of "The Ulitmate Fighter 2," when he lost by decision to Luke Cummo. The UFC's Dana White called it a "great fight," and added that Torres could "walk out of here feeling good about himself" and his performance ... It was announced Monday that Jake Shimabukuro will perform on national television for the first time in December. He'll be a guest on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" Dec. 13; call (212) 664-3056 if you want to be part of the studio audience ... And big screen stars Matt Dillon, Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson were guests at Maharaja Ultra Lounge recently. They're here working on the movie "You, Me and Dupree," but had time to party with club owner Peter Maharaj ...
I DIDN'T know it at the time, but I was drinking one of Ms. Angel's favorite shochu cocktails during a recent review of the bar at 808 Kapahulu.
The Sisters in Sound DJ e-mailed me afterwards to tell me the shochu lime I wrote about is her signature cocktail at "Sweet," the crew's latest promotion at Kai. The next installment of the monthly party happens tomorrow, when DJ Marloca will celebrate her birthday with a costume party. Everyone who arrives in costume will score a free shochu cocktail, courtesy of SIS.
And yes, the other ladies have their own signature cocktails too -- a "Marloca" is shochu and cranberry, a "Toki" is shochu and grapefruit and a "Chia" is shochu and oolong tea ...
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS this weekend: Head to NextDoor on Saturday for another quality act during "Pacific Standard." This week, it's DJ Madlib ... After a few weeks in limbo, Sunday nights at the Living Room are now "Faded 5 Sundays." DJs Delve and Zack Morse will be joined by Technique, JayTee and Goodvybe on the decks ...
