Von Oelhoffen, Hughes honored by Broncos

David Hughes and Kimo von Oelhoffen were named to the Boise State 35th anniversary football team in a vote by 1,700 fans. The team was recognized at last Saturday's football game.

Hughes, a running back from Kamehameha, was a first-team All-American and first-team All-Big Sky Conference in 1978. He played for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League.

Von Oelhoffen, a defensive tackle from Molokai, was a first-team All-Big Sky Conference selection in 1993 and is a 12-year NFL veteran, currently playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hawaii Pacific sweeps Ursuline College

Hawaii Pacific beat Ursuline College (Ohio) 30-21, 30-8, 30-20 last night in women's volleyball at the St. Andrew's Priory gym.

Piikea Dudoit led the Sea Warriors (15-1) with nine kills, and Barbara Martin and Flavia Brakling had seven kills each.

HPU is No. 4 in the CSTV/AVCA Division II national rankings.

Mezin on undefeated Wellesley tennis team

The doubles team of Jenna Mezin, a sophomore from Seabury Hall, and Hali Walther earned an at-large bid to the ITA National Small College Tennis Championships at Fort Myers, Fla., starting tomorrow.

Mezin and Walther led Wellesley College (Mass.) to a perfect 6-0 record this fall. Mezin and Walther were named New England men's and women's Athletic Conference doubles team for the week ending Sunday.

Higa finishes fifth in golf invitational

Hawaii-Hilo's Kristen Higa placed fifth in the Western Washington Invitational golf tournament, leading the Vulcans to a sixth-place finish in Bellingham, Wash.

Higa, a sophomore from Hilo, had rounds of 79, 79 and 78 to finish at 17-over 236. Teammate Jayna Shimomura took 15th place at 244.

Western Washington won the team title.

» The Hawaii-Hilo men's team took eighth at the Chico State/Wells Fargo Invitational in Chico, Calif.

The Vulcans' Colin Gilliam finished with a 5-over 221 and tied for 17th.

UCLA won the team title.

Hawaii tennis team places second in regional

A Hawaii team took second place at the USA Team Tennis Regional Championship last week in El Paso, Texas.

Waialae Iki 5 White Stars was the runner-up in the 3.0 14-and-under division. Kilauea Force finished fifth in the same division.

Two other Hawaii teams participated. Bob's Mob A took third place and the Barbers Point Slamming Acers earned fourth in the 3.0 18-and-under division.
