PARAMOUNT PICTURES
Susan Sarandon, left, Judy Grier and Orlando Bloom star in "Elizabethtown."
|
|
Movies opening Friday:
"Domino": Keira Knightley plays the U.K.-born, Beverly Hills-raised daughter of actor Laurence Harvey. She traded her silver-spoon upbringing and modeling lifestyle for a career running down nasty criminals. Director Tony Scott describes his movie, inspired by a true story, "as a cross between 'Taxi Driver' and 'The Royal Tenenbaums.'" Lucy Liu, Christopher Walken, Mena Suvari, Mickey Rourke, Delroy Lindo and Jacqueline Bisset co-star. (R)
"Elizabethtown": Cameron Crowe's latest movie is about a young workaholic, played by Orlando Bloom, who suffers the triple whammy of a crushing professional failure, his girlfriend leaving him and his father's death. On the verge of suicide, he's given a new purpose in life when he goes back to his family's small Kentucky hometown to make sure that his late dad's wishes are fulfilled. While traveling home, he meets a flight attendant (Kirsten Dunst), and their romance helps him get his life back on track. This is Bloom's first post-"Lord of the Rings" role that doesn't involve sword-fighting. (PG-13)
"The Fog": It's a remake of John Carpenter's 1980 fright fest, with TV stars Tom Welling ("Smallville") and Maggie Grace ("Lost") in their first lead roles. A thick fog rolls into a coastal town and brings with it a ghost ship of vengeful spirits. (PG-13)
