Loo captures national boxing championship
Colleen Loo of Mililani won the Police Athletic League National Championship in the women's 17-and-over division yesterday in Oxnard, Calif.
Loo outpointed Adri Harding 15-7 in the four-round title bout and earned a unanimous decision.
Loo, 19, is a Mililani High School graduate and is attending Leeward Community College. She is a member of the Pearlside Boxing Club in Pearl City.
Hawaii sailors win Stony Burke Intersectional
The University of Hawaii coed sailing team won the Stoney Burke Intersectional in San Francisco yesterday.
The victory in the event hosted by Stanford University came a week after the Rainbows finished second in the Danmark Trophy in New London, Conn.
UH finished with 51 points yesterday, 13 ahead of second place USC.
Hawaii's Bryan lake and Meredith Adams finished first in the A division with 28 points and won four of 10 races. Teammates Joey Pasqualli and Becky Marbady won four races in the B division.
The UH women's team also competed in the event, finishing fifth overall and first among women's squads. The Rainbow Wahine were led by Tinja Anderson-Mitterling and Caitlin Hill in the A division and Shandy Buckly and Crystal Bronte in the B division.
