‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ wins festival award
In a previous column, I mentioned how Studio Ghibli's "Howl's Moving Castle" barely registered a blip in U.S. box office earnings.
That's still true -- Boxofficemojo.com reports that as of Oct. 2, "Howl" earned a little less than $5 million during its stay in U.S. theaters.
But could "Howl" hold its own against blockbusters like "Sin City," "War of the Worlds" and "Batman Begins," three movies that, combined, made more than 100 times what "Howl" earned in America?
You betcha. The Hollywood Film Festival recently announced its honorees for 2005, and all of the aforementioned movies earned awards. "Howl" earned the festival's "Hollywood Animation of the Year" award.
It remains to be seen whether "Howl" will follow in the footsteps of "Spirited Away" and earn an Academy Award nomination, but this award is certainly nice ...

"Cardcaptor Sakura: Clow Book Set 1" from Geneon: It's been difficult to find individual volumes of this series for sale anywhere, so having them all in one place is a good thing.
