Grand vistas
Former Star-Bulletin photographer Ken Ige gave up the news life to become a firefighter. But he still has his cameras, and a visit to Yosemite Valley in May allowed him to put them to good use. Surrounded by walls of granite that would dwarf the Koolaus, he was also able to indulge a favorite hobby of rock climbing, capturing these rare views from on high.

Yosemite's walls of towering granite almost make you forget about the little wonders -- such as this wildflower, knee high and smaller than a quarter.
