Wales named UH swim coach
Former San Jose State women's swimming and diving coach Victor Wales has been hired as the new University of Hawaii head swimming coach.
Wales spent the past four years at SJSU, where his team broke 17 school records and earned 15 Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honors.
Warriors win 2 exhibition matches in Canada
The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team took two exhibition matches from the University of British Columbia yesterday in Vancouver.
UH won the first game in four sets and the second game 25-23, 17-25, 25-12, 29-31, 15-7. Jose Delgado had 19 kills in the late game for Hawaii.
HPU wins in Laie: Flavia Brakling had 20 kills and Barbara Martin added 15 as the No. 5 Hawaii Pacific volleyball team defeated No. 21 Brigham Young-Hawaii 30-28, 30-25, 30-24 at Laie last night.
Vulcans sweep Silverswords: Taina Savage had 15 kills as Hawaii-Hilo defeated Chaminade 30-25, 30-25, 30-26 last night at McCabe Gym. Trina Kauliakoma and Kara Smith had 10 kills each for Chaminade (8-8). UHH improved to 11-5.
Seasiders sink Bears
James Jacobson, Brett Hearn and Stu Johnson scored two goals each to lead the No. 16 Brigham Young-Hawaii water polo team to an 8-6 win over Brown at day one of the Claremont Convergence Tournament in Claremont, Calif., yesterday.
In another match, No. 20 Santa Clara defeated Chaminade 16-8. The tournament concludes today.
