Armed-robbery suspect is arrested in auto theft
Police caught an armed-robbery suspect wanted for two incidents last month.
The 21-year-old man was arrested Thursday at 958 Prospect St. Police believe he is also the person who robbed the Hawaiian Holy Smokes store in Moiliili on Sept. 20 and attempted to rob the Kuakini Street Pizza Hut on Sept. 27.
Police found him in the driver's seat of a vehicle he is suspected of trying to steal, with the engine running, about 10:32 a.m.
A witness told police that the suspect had asked her to move her vehicle because it was blocking him from reversing out.
She told him she did not have the keys and that the owner of the vehicle would be out momentarily to move it.
In the meantime a neighbor called the owner of the vehicle to say someone was trying to steal it. The owner then called police.
Officers arrested the suspect for investigation of auto theft, and later discovered he was being sought for the two previous robberies and another auto theft.
In both incidents, witnesses had described the suspect as having bad acne and pockmarks on his face. Police said the suspect used a stolen car to flee the scene after the Sept. 27 robbery attempt. Officers recovered the car on Magazine Street the next day.
