Rainbow Wahine's Mason is WAC player of week
Hawaii junior outside hitter Sarah Mason was named the Western Athletic Conference player of the week in women's volleyball after helping the No. 11 Rainbow Wahine to two road victories last week.
The transfer from Oregon had 40 kills and hit .411 in victories over Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State, including 19 kills in the five-game win over the Aggies Saturday. Mason is the second Wahine to earn weekly honors; senior middle Victoria Prince was selected on Sept. 19.
Hawaii (9-6, 3-0) puts its 94-match WAC winning streak on the line Friday when hosting Fresno State (2-11, 0-3). The Wahine take on WAC co-leader Nevada (11-6, 4-0) on Saturday.
Stan Smith is USTA special guest
Former tennis great Stan Smith is a special guest of the USTA's 19th annual Tennis Weekend at Ala Moana Park and McCoy Pavilion.
Clinics and exhibits are on tap at the event, which is being held Oct. 15 and 16 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Smith is a former U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion.
Jose Higueras, who has helped develop top players such as Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, Carlos Moya, Michael Chang and Jennifer Capriati, is another special guest.

Lee, Castillo advance to match play final
Regan Lee and Ron Castillo Jr. advanced to today's final of the Aloha Section PGA Turtle Bay Resort Match Play Championship.
Lee beat Lance Taketa 1-up in the quarterfinals and John Lynch 5 and 4 in the semifinals yesterday.
Castillo got past Larry Stubblefield 1-up before dispatching Kevin Carll 4 and 3 for the right to meet Lee today.
In the senior division, Dugal Milne and Ron Kiaaina play in today's final.
Milne beat Ray Suzuki 4 and 2 and Harold Perry 2-up yesterday, and Kiaaina topped Gregg Baker 2-up and Dave Kowalczyk 4 and 3.
Scaduto, Yagi headline coaches clinic
University of Hawaii men's assistant coach Len Scaduto and former Hawaii-Hilo coach Jimmy Yagi are part of the staff at the Hawaii Basketball Coaches Clinic on Saturday at Damien Memorial High School.
Hawaii Pacific coach Kelly Wells, Larry Doty of Linfield, Maurice Maggiolino of Chaminade are also speaking at the clinic, along with Punahou's Alan Lum, who is a certified Positive Coaching Alliance clinician.
