Kelly Hu takes to the skies in supersonic jetliner movie
Hawaii's
Kelly Hu more than held her own as she co-starred with
Aidan Quinn and
Dean Cain in "Mayday" on KGMB-TV Sunday night. The drama had more thrills than I expected, despite unbelievable situations, and bringing back thoughts of "Airplane." Kelly plays a flight attendant on a supersonic jetliner over the Pacific. The plane is hit by a Navy dummy missile that blasts right through the fuselage of the plane, but it can still fly. With the pilots killed or unconscious, a recreational pilot takes the controls and, with Kelly's help, heads back to San Francisco. It's a triumph of good over evil, involving Navy officers and airline executives. Cain and
Gail O'Grady are
deliciously
evil as they
portray a Navy officer and an insurance exec, respectively ... Hawaii's
Sarah Wayne Callies is a regular on KHON's "Prison Break." Her character, a prison doctor, was featured in last night's episode and the previous week's show ...
Singer Mihana Souza put on a mini-concert on the Ward Warehouse stage Friday with guitarist Sam Henderson. The music was part of her CD release party for "One Little Dream" in Native Books/Na Mea Hawaii near the stage. Maile Meyer, Cathy Ostrem, Renee Hampton, Sherry Adams, La'ela'e Sundberg, Gloria Affigne, J. Mahealani McClellan and Kanoe Cazimero danced hula. Kanoe also sang. Former Waikiki stars Marlene Sai and Alex McAngus were among the large crowd of Mihana's family and friends. Excellent Hawaiian food was served in Na Mea. Kahala Associates' Myra Brandt bought a stack of "Dream" CDs ...
