Red Raiders return to the top
Petulant and fickle, the Star-Bulletin Football Top 10 panel is certainly showing its colors again.
Today, the favorite color of voters is red. Kahuku, which fell from the top spot after a loss to Castle last month, returned to No. 1 despite collecting just three of 20 first-place votes. The Red Raiders blanked Farrington 43-0, but probably benefited from the incredibly harsh world of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.
Punahou and Iolani each garnered eight first-place votes but finished behind Kahuku in the voting. Last week's top vote-getter, Kamehameha, slipped to No. 4 after a 21-14 loss to Saint Louis. All three Division I teams in the ILH have one loss, while D-II leader Iolani is unbeaten against Hawaii teams.
Being No. 1 again is a plus, coach Siuaki Livai said.
"I think it helps build confidence. We spoiled one game and that's about it. We still look ugly offensively, but you can't ask for more defensively with a shutout," he said.
