Duke headlines 2007 Maui Invitational field
Duke will attempt to win a record fourth EA Sports Maui Invitational championship when the Blue Devils return to the Valley Isle for the 2007 tournament at the Lahaina Civic Center.
Joining Duke, which is 9-0 in three Maui appearances, will be Arizona State, Illinois, Louisiana State, Marquette, Oklahoma State, Princeton and host Chaminade.
Arizona State won the 1994 title and Illinois was the 2000 runner up. Marquette, Oklahoma State and Princeton will play in the tournament for the first time.
This year's tournament is set for Nov. 21-23 and features Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Gonzaga, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan State and Chaminade. Joining the Silverswords in 2006 will be DePaul, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Memphis, Oklahoma, Purdue and UCLA.
Perfect day for the Seasiders
Junyoung Kim and Leon So'onalole each advanced to the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA West Regionals in both singles and doubles competition yesterday in Pomona, Calif.
Kim and So'onalole, the first and third seeds respectively in the singles competition, are also seeded second in doubles together and moved on to today's semifinals after defeating Sonoma State's John Murten and Kevin Buyse 8-4.
Meanwhile, Julia Ustyuzhanina and Tetyana Bula are also in the semifinals of both the singles and doubles competitions after each won yesterday. They are the No. 1 and 2 seeds respectively in singles and the top-seeded doubles team.
