PREVIEW

Movies opening Friday:

"The Greatest Game Ever Played": Shia LeBeouf stars in the Disney feature of the true story of Francis Ouimet, an amateur player from a working class family who, flanked by his 10-year-old caddie, beat the odds to defeat British champion Harry Vardon at the 1913 U.S. Open golf championship. (PG)

"Into the Blue": Six billion dollars' worth of treasure is supposedly buried in the shark-infested Caribbean Sea and it's up to the preternaturally attractive Paul Walker and Jessica Alba and their pals to claim it. Scott Caan, Ashley Scott and Josh Brolin co-star, and John Stockwell of "Blue Crush" fame directs. (PG-13)

"The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio": The true-life drama centers on homemaker Evelyn Ryan (Julianne Moore) who raised 10 kids and suffered an alcoholic husband (Woody Harrelson) while entering -- and winning -- Eisenhower-era jingle contests. (PG-13)

"Serenity": It's the big-screen revival of Joss Whedon's sci-fi Western cult series that aired on Fox in 2002. It stars the original cast, focusing on troubled passenger River (Summer Glau), a teen prone to psychic flashes and violence thanks to government experimentation. She and her brother are fugitives from the Universal Alliance, which will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. (PG-13)
