Adoption links

Adoptive children seeking their birth parents, or anyone who has lost track of a relative through adoption or divorce, is invited to sign up for a free international registry through the Adoption Circle of Hawaii.

Saturday is registration day. Volunteers will be posted at Borders Books and Music at Ward Centre and Waikele and Borders Express, Windward Mall, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Names will be placed in the International Soundex Reunion Registry, which helps reunite birth family members. Adoptees age 18 and older, birth parents, adoptive parents and others separated through divorce are welcome to register. Their information is compared to other information in the registry and in case of a match, both parties are notified immediately.

The Adoption Circle also holds free support group meetings from 6 to 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at Harris United Methodist Church.

Call 591-3834 or visit www.adoptioncirclehawaii.com.

Pocho Shootout

Frank DeLima is probably best known for his standup comedy routine, but he also volunteers his time and energy to the children of Hawaii through the Frank DeLima Student Enrichment Program. In addition to making adults laugh, he also visits many of Hawaii's public and private schools.

The cost of the 23-year-old program is funded through events such as the Pocho Shootout golf tournament, noon Monday at Olomana Gold Links.

Individuals and groups can play in the shootout and take part as individuals or play as teams in the gold, silver and bronze packages. Submit forms and payment by Friday.

Fees are $30 (greenie mulligan package) to $1,500 (gold level, includes a half-hour performance by DeLima, two three-man teams, one-hole sponsorship, two mulligans per team player).

Contact: Frank DeLima Student Enrichment Program, 2021-A Pauoa Road, Honolulu 96813.

'South Pacific' benefit

The Oct. 8 performance of "South Pacific" at Windward Community College will be a benefit for A Safe Place, a nonprofit group that works with children of prison inmates.

A cocktail and pupu reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m. The Tony Award-winning musical is directed by Ron Bright and performed at Paliku Theatre.

Tickets are $50 ($30 tax-deductible). Call 486-1601.

A Safe Place, located in Aiea, began as an outreach program of Wellspring Covenant Church and offers a variety of support services directly to children, as well as through the corrections system, in an attempt to keep the children from repeating the prison-bound patterns of their parents.

The event is sponsored by the Servco Foundation.
