Ewa salutes the world champs

Little League World Series winners

People lined up yesterday along Fort Weaver Road in Ewa to see the Ewa Beach Little Leaguers, who were treated to a parade celebrating their Little League World Series win. The West Oahu team became the world champions by defeating defending champs Curacao 7-6 on Aug. 28. A family-style party featuring entertainment and presentations followed. The events were organized by area developers and local businesses, civic leaders, clubs and schools.

Faith Maugaotega-Abasial held tight to her ipu during the Harvest Moon Celebration at the Hawaii Plantation Village in Waipahu yesterday. Faith is the granddaughter of kumu hula Taunja Vaishon whose halau 'Na 'Ohana O Ke Anuenue performed at the event. The festival featured cooking demonstrations, dance and representatives from various cultures to share their traditions and beliefs about the lunar celebration.

Top island entertainment, ono food, unique local crafts, keiki activities, community exhibits and a host of special campus attractions were part of the Fifth Annual Windward Hoolaulea yesterday at Windward Community College. Ace Thomas and his 2-year-old granddaughter, Liliana Thomas, had fun going down the "Tsunami" slide. The theme for the celebration was "Windward Ho'olaule'a -- Spanning the Generations."
