Chef's tour

Chef Roberto Los Banos of the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Bali by the Sea will lead a field trip to the Oceanic Institute in Makapuu on Wednesday, followed by a cooking session at the restaurant, and lunch.

The bus tour begins at 8:45 a.m. at the hotel's Paradise Lounge.

The cooking session will feature fish and other seafood, involving the tour group as cooks.

Cost is $75 per person, with space for 20. Call 947-7888. The next Chef Market Tour will be Oct. 19 -- a visit to Aloun Farms.

Benefit opening

Auntie Pasto's celebrates the opening of a new Waipahu restaurant with a benefit for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 6 to 8 p.m. next Sunday.

Dinner will feature a "diabetes-friendly" family-style menu of salads, Chicken Picatta, steamed vegetables and a sugar-free cheesecake.

Entertainment will be by singer Joey Caldarone, in honor of his mother and grandmother, who both have diabetes. Midweek columnist Eddie Sherman, who also has diabetes, will emcee.

Tickets are $100. Call 732-7733.
