DIY workshops

Mark your calendar for the following free do-it-yourself workshops coming up next month at the Home Depot stores.

» 7 p.m. Thursdays: "You can use a miter saw to build picture frames."
» 7 p.m. Fridays: Easy flooring solutions.
» Saturdays: 10 a.m., Family fire safety; 2 p.m., "You can have fun with color and faux."
» Sundays: 1 p.m., "You can install track lighting;" 2 p.m. "You can update your kitchen countertops and cabinets."

In addition, keiki can tap their DIY skills 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 1 in a "Build a fire truck with the Red Cross" event, and the ladies can look forward to a Do-It-Herself workshop Oct. 24 on kitchen makeovers.

Plant walk

Learn about flowers, fruits and plant product in the New World tropics free art exhbit through Tuesday at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden in Kaneohe. The exhibit is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join the free guided tour tomorrow 10 a.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. featuring this month's tropical American plants: annato, allspice, cocoa, balsa and rubber.

Please come prepared with walking shoes, insect repellent and rain gear. Picnics welcome.
