Web site offers
online drug refills

Question: I heard that the Department of Veterans Affairs' Web site, My HealtheVet, now allows VA enrollees to refill their prescriptions online. How does it work?

Answer: As a registered My HealtheVet user, you can log in and select "My Prescriptions" under the "My Care" tab. Options that are available are "View Prescription History" and "Refill Prescriptions." VA registrants can request a refill of their current VA medications just by selecting their prescription number and requesting a refill.

To use Online Refill, you must be a VA patient, have prescriptions written by VA doctors that have already been filled at least once at a VA pharmacy and have a Web site account. If you already have a Web site account, just log in and go to My Care. If you do not have a Web site account, you can create one by clicking the Register Now link located on the home page.

Access to the HealtheVet site at www.myhealth.va.gov can be from the convenience of your own home. If you don't have a computer, one has been placed in the lobby of the VA Medical Center dedicated to MyHealtheVet users. If you need help registering or want to learn more about the Web site, contact 433-7676 to learn when the next hands-on class will be conducted.

Q: I am a service-connected disabled veteran and obtaining life insurance is difficult. Does the VA offer insurance for veterans like myself?

A: A veteran who has a service-connected disability but is otherwise in good health may apply to VA for up to $10,000 in life insurance coverage at standard insurance rates within two years from the date of being notified of service-connected status. This insurance is limited to veterans who left service after April 24, 1951. Veterans who are totally disabled may apply for a waiver of premiums. For those veterans who are eligible for this waiver, additional coverage of up to $20,000 is available. Premiums cannot be waived on the additional insurance. Call the VA Regional Office at 1-800-827-1000 for more information.

If you have questions about your benefits as a veteran, call Fred Ballard at the Veterans Affairs at 433-0049 or visit the VA Web site at www.va.gov/hawaii or the Star-Bulletin at 529-4747.
