Planos loses in round of 32 in Mid-Amateur

Kapalua's Lori Planos lost yesterday in the round of 32 at the Women's Mid-Amateur Championship golf tournament in Richmond, Texas.

Corey Weworski of Carlsbad, Calif., beat Planos 1-up in a match that lasted 19 holes.

Planos was coming off a 4 and 2 victory over Sydney Moore of Menominee, Mich., on Monday in the round of 64.

Hawaii-Hilo holds cheerleader tryouts

Cheerleader tryouts for Hawaii-Hilo's athletic season are 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday at the school's old gym.

Keiki triathlon is Oct. 1 at Ko Olina

The Jamba Juice Keiki Triathlon Championship is Oct. 1 at Ko Olina Resort.

The race is open to children ages 7-14. According to organizers, they'll swim in calm lagoons, cycle on secured roads and run on manicured lawns.

The course is a 50-meter swim, 1-mile bike and half-mile run for ages 7-8. For the 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 age groups, the course is a 100-meter swim, a 2-5-mile bike and a 1.3-mile run.

The race is the championship event of a four-race keiki triathlon series.

The entry fee is $35.
