49ers top Wahine
in finale

LONG BEACH, Calif. » Kim Silos scored three goals and assisted on another as the Long Beach State 49ers beat Hawaii 4-2 last night to win the 49er Classic.

UH Silos opened the scoring 8:58 into the match with a shot from the right side of the penalty box, giving LBSU a 1-0 lead at the half.

The Rainbow Wahine trailed 2-0 after 53 minutes when Rachel Whiteaker scored from a scramble in front of the goal following a corner kick.

The Wahine rallied to tie the score on an own goal at 69:56 and Adria Campbell's first UH goal at 71:54.

Campbell sent a perfectly placed free kick from the left-hand corner of the box that hit the opposite post and went in.

The 49ers responded quickly. Silos got her second goal at 73:20, a 30-yard shot into the upper-right corner. The freshman put the match away and got her hat trick at 82:47 on a fast-break goal.

"We played a very good team. According to their coach, they hadn't been playing well until today. They moved the ball around beautifully. They put on a show," said UH coach Pinsoom Tenzing.

The 49ers have now won four consecutive matches, tying a school record.

"There were two good things today. The players stayed positive and Gabina Bohlman played 10 to 15 minutes in each half. She looked fine and there was no pain," said Tenzing.

Bohlman has been out since the season opener with a strained right knee.

"The only downside was we gave away the third goal. We passed the ball right to Silos," said Tenzing.

UH goalkeeper Kori Lu had nine saves. The 49ers unloaded 19 shots with 13 on goal.

The Wahine were held to seven shots.

Hawaii (2-3-1) concludes the road trip with a nonconference match at UC Santa Barbara tomorrow.

Three Rainbow Wahine -- Campbell and defenders Kelly McCloskey and Tehane Higa -- were named to the all-tournament team.
