Lajola loses to fifth-seeded junior

Aiea's Dennis Lajola lost to fifth-seeded Alex Kuznetsov 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the U.S. Open Junior Tennis Championship in New York.

Lajola and Nathaniel Schnugg were also eliminated from the boys doubles competition, falling to Carsten Ball and Thiemo de Bakker 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.

Seasiders sweep Notre Dame de Namur

Yu Chuan Weng recorded 30 kills to lead the Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball team to a sweep of Notre Dame de Namur last night in Belmont, Calif.

Weng hit .562 in the Seasiders' 30-11, 30-23, 30-22 win over the Argonauts, who had 29 kills as a team. Lilly Tufaga added nine kills for BYUH, which improved to 7-0.

Little League parade postponed

A parade scheduled to be held in Ewa Beach on Saturday in honor of the Little League World Series champion team has been postponed.

Rep. Kimberly Pine said the parade was postponed to allow more organizations to take part in the event. A date for the parade has yet to be determined. For more information, call Rep. Pine's office at 586-9730.

Olympians headline swimming clinic

Olympic gold medalists Gary Hall Jr., Anthony Ervin and Rowdy Gaines are scheduled to appear at swimming clinics at The Oahu Club.

The 2005 Swimposium clinics and competition are Sept. 17 and Oct. 8. The first session is a clinic featuring guest speaker Ernie Maglischo, a renowned college swimming coach. The second session is a clinic followed by an age-group competition.

State senior amateur tourney coming up

Entries are being accepted for the Hawaii State Golf Association's State Senior Amateur Championship to be held Nov. 5-6 at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.

The qualifying age is 55 for men and 50 for women. The entry fee is $165. The entry form is available on the HSGA Web site at www.HawaiiStateGolf.org and at golf courses around the state.

Jim Ono is the defending men's division champion. Marcie Rudich won the women's division last year.
