HPU takes pair on road

Barbara Martin had 14 kills and Flavia Brakling added 11 as the No. 8 Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team swept No. 13 UC San Diego 30-20, 30-18, 30-26 at the Coyote Classic in San Bernadino, Calif. yesterday.

Brakling had 18 kills and Martin had 15 as HPU (8-0) defeated Sonoma State 26-30, 30-15, 30-14, 30-17.

Hilo also wins 2: Taina Savage had 26 kills and 29 digs and Rose Ramsey added 22 kills to lead UH Hilo to a 31-29, 30-32, 25-30, 30-26, 15-9 win over North Dakota at the Aspen Hotels Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska.

Elisa Imhof had 76 assists and Kahea Silva 30 digs for Hilo.

Earlier, Ramsey had 15 kills and the Vulcans (5-4) served up 11 aces in a 30-22, 30-22, 30-11 win over Bemidji State.

The five wins eclipse last year's total of three.
