Parties break loose
on Labor Day weekend

Local party promoters are pulling out all the stops once again, with Labor Day Weekend and the official end of summer just days away.

We start with two new Friday night weeklies, one in Waikiki and the other at Ala Moana Center. Better known as the home to "Feng Shui" on Saturdays, Ciao Mein at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki expands its late night offerings with "Chopstix," hosted by Kurious and Hot 93.9.

Doors open at 9:30 p.m. for this 21-and-over party, with two rooms of music similar to what you hear on Hot 93.9's "Groove Mix at Six" every weekday. DJs Jimmy Taco, Mixmaster B, K-Smooth, Technique, XL and Stealth will share turntable duties ...

OVER AT Jackie's Kitchen, Architechs Hawaii and the Nocturnal Sound Krew start up "Hells Yeah Kitchen" this week to go along with the wildly popular "NJoy" party at Chai's Island Bistro on Saturdays.

DJ Compose has given up his residency at "Get Fresh" in order to make the jump to Jackie's Kitchen, where he'll be joined by the Architechs' DJ Delve.Oneder. This one is 21-and-over as well, with $1 Coors Light drafts available all night. Doors open at 10 p.m. ...

BUT THAT'S not all for Friday -- take some time to stop in at the Mercury Lounge, as "Audiolab" makes its last stand after more than two years of bringing nothing but drum-n-bass to local club kids. DJs Bass-X, Kause, Konception and Mindgame will be joined by MCs Enemy and Kelvin Zero, with a $5 cover to get into the 21-and-over party ... And Matty Liu returns to his North Shore roots with an "Aloha Friday DJ Party" featuring DJ Revise at Haleiwa Joe's, starting at 9 p.m. ...

SATURDAY'S big event is the second annual MySpace. com party at Pipeline Cafe.

Yes, founder Tom Anderson will be there acting like a rock star and hitting on the local women. He'll be joined by Scratch from The Roots, national recording artist Apathy and Fiji on the main stage, with Black Square headlining things upstairs.

Other local names scheduled to be at the party: Emirc, Creed Chameleon, Mox, Kimo and Trace, Omega Cix and DJs Aiza, Bone, Jahson, Dunza, Liloa and Sovern-T. Cover is $15 for this 18-and-over celebration ...

AND IF you make it to Sunday, there are two block parties to check out. Head to Waikiki, where one cover will get you into parties at Lulu's, Tiki's and Maharaja. At Restaurant Row, Ho'onu'a, B.E.T. and Kalaeloa headline an outdoor party that starts at 7 p.m. ... There's also Natural Vibrations at Don Ho's, the Native Blend CD release party at Pipeline, and the "Punk Rock Circus" at Club Pauahi ...
