Day of Christian music is planned at Kualoa

There will be musical entertainment all day next Saturday at the Summer Youth Worship Bash at Kualoa Ranch in Windward Oahu.

Hoku nominee 7 Simple Pieces, Christian punk rock band Red Letter and the African rhythms of Limit X and Milele will highlight the event sponsored by KGU "The Fish" radio station and several island Christian churches. The Dancing 4 Him troupe led by John and Lanu Tilton will perform, as will praise and worship bands from several Oahu churches.

Youth ministers from several churches will provide brief inspirational messages throughout the day. The event is geared for people from 14 to 25 years of age.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. The program will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The $5 fee includes lunch and a light supper. Information is available from Melodie Vega at 753-1951, local church youth directors or at www.wavehawaii.org.

Gospel music vocal workshop offered free

A workshop on gospel music for choirs and choral singers will be presented Sept. 7 by Rollo Dilworth, music minister for the Martin Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Chicago.

Dilworth, an assistant professor at North Park University School of Music in Chicago, will explore African-American gospel music and teach vocal techniques and ideas for improvisation. Workshop students will sing with the Chicago church's 20-member choir at the conclusion of the workshop.

The free workshop will begin at 7 p.m. at Farrington High School auditorium. It is hosted by New Hope Christian Fellowship Oahu. For information, call Arlene Iwano at 842-44242, ext. 420.
