The statue of Duke Kahanamoku in Waikiki is traditionally draped with leis for his birthday.

A 5-day celebration
of all things Duke

The Fourth Annual Duke's Ho'laule'a celebrates the accomplishments of Hawaii's folk hero, Duke Kahanamoku, in five days of events beginning tomorrow.

Kahanamoku won six Olympic medals in a 20-year career beginning in 1912. He was the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming Hall of Fame, in 1965, and the Surfing Hall of Fame, in 1966.
