Maui Invitational tickets on sale today

Remaining booster tickets for the EA Sports Maui Invitational go on sale to the public today.

Booster ticket packages for Arkansas, Connecticut, Michigan State and Chaminade are still available. Booster tickets are good for a school's three games in the tournament. All-tournament ticket packages are sold out, as well as booster tickets for Arizona, Gonzaga, Kansas and Maryland.

The tournament is set for Nov. 21-23 at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Vulcans host 12th annual Hawaiian Style tourney

Hawaii-Hilo is hosting the 12th annual Hawaiian Style Classic volleyball tournament, Aug. 26-27, at the school's new gym.

Alaska-Anchorage, Brigham Young-Hawaii, Central Washington Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific, Seattle University and Northern State are also participating in the Big Island tournament. Doane College and Waldorf College are coming for a pre-tournament challenge against the four Hawaii teams.

» The annual Ann Kang Invitational Girls Volleyball Tournament starts tomorrow at Iolani School.

Twenty teams -- 10 from the mainland and 10 from Hawaii -- are entered in the tournament. Eight advance to the championship bracket to be held Friday and Saturday.

Hawaii American Legion team in title game

Nevada-Host topped Hawaii 3-1 yesterday in the championship round of the American Legion West Regional baseball tournament.

The two teams, both with one loss, play in the title game of the double-elimination tournament today.

Kaohi Downing had two hits to lead Hawaii. Pitcher Randy Kitagawa scattered nine hits in eight innings, but took the loss.

» Pearl City won its second straight game without a loss at the Little League Senior World Series in Bangor, Maine.

Shannon Liu was the winning pitcher as Pearl City defeated Georgia 6-3. Liu, Ryne Acosta and Kellen Ushijima all had two hits.

» Hawaii defeated Phoenix, Ore., 10-0 yesterday in a Babe Ruth World Series game at Abbeville, La.

Isaac Kitamura, Zachary Kometani and Matthew Suitor all had two hits for Hawaii, and Suitor drove in three runs in support of winning pitcher Evan Yamamoto.

High school football games on radio

Two upcoming high school football games are scheduled for broadcast on 97.5 FM -- Kamehameha vs. Kahuku at 7 p.m. on Friday at Aloha Stadium, and Saint Louis vs. Farrington at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 at Aloha Stadium.

Lad Panis will do the play-by-play, with David Hallums as the color commentator.

Ko Olina Triathlon scheduled for Oct. 2

The third annual Ko Olina Triathlon to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International and Ko Olina Charities will be held Oct. 2 at the resort.

The race features a distinctive swim-run-swim start, with competitors swimming each of Ko Olina's four lagoons, then running over land to the next body of water. A 30K bike ride and 4.5 mile run follow.
