Hawaii advances to CABA final

The Hawaii Warriors won twice yesterday to advance to today's championship game of the Continental Amateur Baseball Association 9-and-under world series.

Hawaii defeated Minnesota 18-4 in a game shortened due to the mercy rule. The Warriors then beat Mason City, Iowa, 5-1, to advance to the final. Ryan Sato went 4-for-5 with two doubles in the wins.

Hawaii opened the double-elimination tournament on Wednesday with an 18-1 win over Charles City, Iowa. Sato and Luke Morris combined on a no-hitter.

Big inning boosts Pearl City

A 15-run fourth inning sent Pearl City to its second win in the Little League Senior Division (ages 15-16) Western Regional in Beaverton, Ore., on Wednesday.

Rory Nakayama went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs in Pearl City's 15-2 win. Jason Rasa was 3-for-4 and Scott Muraoka drove in two runs and picked up the win on the mound.

Pearl City plays Northern California tomorrow.

Kaikamahine wins twice at softball tourney

The Kaikamahine softball team won twice yesterday at the ASA 16-and-under National Softball Championship in Sioux Falls, SD.

Pitcher Jessica Ghazali earned the win in both games, a 3-1 victory over the Jasper X-Treme of Indiana and a 4-3 win over Absolute Best of Washington.

The team plays the Nevada Comets today.

» Sarah Weisskopf earned the pitching victory and Valana Aloy drove in four runs to help Mililani Prep to a 6-2 win over Washington in the 18-and-under Western Nationals in Portland, Ore.

Hawaii Pacific softball to host clinics

Hawaii Pacific University softball coaches Howard Okita and Bryan Nakasone and the Sea Warrior team will hold a series of six free clinics on Saturdays starting Aug. 13.

The clinics are open to girls ages 14-16 and will be held at the HPU Windward campus field from 2 to 5 p.m. Registration is limited to the first 20-25 participants to sign up.
