Kapolei library celebrates its
anniversary with special events

Kapolei Public Library will expand its hours starting Aug. 20 and mark its first anniversary with a week of programs for children, teens and adults.

The library will add nine hours to its weekday schedule. It will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. The library is closed Sundays.

The anniversary celebration begins with a Friends of the Library book sale on Aug. 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, on Aug. 27, DVD and video rentals will be free with an active library card, for up to 10 items.

Special performances that week include "Journey Through Jazz" (Aug. 23, 6:30 p.m.), Kua'ana slack-key guitar and hula (Aug. 27, 10:30 a.m.), StarLab Interactive Display (Aug. 20, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.), teen anime matinees (Aug. 22 and 25, 3 p.m.), a children's magic show (Aug. 24, 6:30 p.m.), origami crafts (Aug. 26, 3:30 p.m.) and story times (Aug. 20, 22, 25 and 27, 10 a.m.).

The library, at 1020 Manawai St., opened on Aug. 16, 2004. It is the second largest in the state, with more than 5,700 items checked out each week.
