Ladies, if you have trouble getting your man to accompany you on a shopping expedition, just promise to feed him at Steak and Fish Company afterward. It's been a hit since opening in June. (Don't tell him it's low budget.)

Rib-eye and New York steaks ($9.99) cook down to about a half-inch thick, prepared simply with a turn on the grill, then served with mashed potatoes, canned corn and beans.

You can also pick up a seafood plate of grilled salmon, shrimp or jumbo scallops ($8.99), or seared ahi ($11.99). Combos feature boneless kalbi steak paired with four grilled shrimp, or scallops or fish ($9.99).

Healthy types might opt for a generous salad bar ($1.89 small/$5.99 large) with mixed greens, spinach, cruciferous veggies, kidney beans, a pinch of oregano, just about everything. Didn't see too many people choosing veggies over steak tho'.

» Steak and Fish Co: Makai Marketplace, Ala Moana

» Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; and 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays

For fans of quirky independent film fare, I heartily recommend "Me and You and Everyone We Know," which I saw in San Francisco about a month ago and opens locally at the Varsity theaters Friday. Miranda July's impressive debut film is a sweet-natured and observant look at people in search for true love and affection.

All this sounds tame and inoffensive, but it's rated R for a good reason. There are sexual situations involving minors, but their explicitly expressed awkwardness retains a sense of humor. The cast is uniformly good, but 7-year-old Brandon Ratcliff -- still in that magic time between baby and boy -- is the film's scene stealer.

If you haven't been to an afterhours party at Longhi's yet, now is your chance.

"Fahrenheit Fridays" is the latest endeavor by promoter Ian Fernandez to attract a slightly more mature crowd than what you normally see at Pipeline Cafe or "Feng Shui" on any given weekend.

Hosted by 93.1 The Zone afternoon jock Hawaiian Ryan, the party also features the sonic stylings of DJ Ryan Sean. Expect standard club bangers mixed with a twist -- Ryan somehow got Maroon 5 to blend into a 50 Cent track during my visit a couple weeks ago.
