Forgiveness Day

Sunday is Forgiveness Day, marking the 60th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan.

A commemoration will be held at 2 p.m. at Central Union Church, 1660 S. Beretania St., calling for forgiveness in community, political and religious life.

The event includes international delegations from Scotland and Brazil; talks by local authors Jerry Jampolsky, Diane Cirincione and Wally Amos; and special presentations about the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Organizers draw insight from Nelson Mandela, who said, "As we let our own light shine, we invite other people to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence liberates others."

The event is free. Call 222-7205.

'Full Monty' auditions

Auditions begin tomorrow for Diamond Head Theatre's "The Full Monty," which opens DHT's 2005-06 season on Sept. 23, running through Oct. 9.

Auditions will take place at the DHT Rehearsal Hall, 520 Makapuu Ave., at 7 p.m. tomorrow, 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Performers should be prepared to sing a Broadway-style song (bring sheet music in your own key), dance and read from the script. Perusal scripts are available at the theater box office to be read on site. More information is available online at www.diamondheadtheatre.com.

"The Full Monty," based on the movie of the same name, tells of a group of unemployed Buffalo, N.Y., steelworkers who come up with a bold way to make some quick cash: a male striptease act. In rehearsals they work through their anxieties (over everything from being overweight to being gay).

Call 733-0277, ext. 309.
