As features editor, Shimabukuro will be in charge of the daily and Sunday Today sections. She also will continue to oversee the Wednesday Food section and write her "By Request" column.

As the new Style editor, Kam will handle coverage of fashion, the arts, and life and home styles, and will oversee the Sunday Travel section. "The Weekly Eater" -- her restaurant review -- will continue to run Sundays.

Both editors are graduates of the University of Hawaii journalism program. Shimabukuro's background includes editing and writing positions at Florida Today and the Orange County Register.

Kam has written about food and Hawaii's restaurant scene for 17 years and fashion for 25 but says, "It's only now that the community has developed the interest and eye to justify our pursuit of full fashion coverage."

"These changes will help us focus on the issues that readers have told us they are interested in," said Frank Bridgewater, editor. "The expertise that Betty and Nadine bring to these positions, along with their familiarity with the local scene, will increase the depth and breadth of our coverage."
