Perry, Price rule
radio waves, again

The weighty listenership of radio morning duo Michael W. Perry and Larry Price has kept KSSK-FM 92.3 and its sometimes-simulcasting sister station, KSSK-AM 590, at the top of the Arbitron ratings for Spring 2005.

The Perry and Price morning show is broadcast on both FM and AM and with 22.6 percent of the morning radio audience, it far outdistances all other Oahu radio stations' morning shows. The huge numbers also help buoy KSSK-FM and AM's ratings for the rest of the day.

Chris Reiser and Sistah Sherry on KRTR-FM 96.3 host the second-ranked morning show a 7.1 percent share.

The morning show on KINE-FM 105.1, featuring Hawaii Democrat official Brickwood Galuteria, is third with a 6.4 share; Hudson and Scotty B. on KUCD-FM 101.9 are No. 4 at 5.8; KDDB-FM 102.7's Leo Baldwin and comedian Paul Ogata rank fifth at 4.8.

While Arbitron releases overall ratings among listeners 12 and older for public consumption, those numbers are fairly meaningless to the radio stations and their advertisers.

The stations are geared primarily toward specific audiences, such as age groups.

Noncommercial KHPR-FM 88.1 and KIPO-FM 89.3 are not included in Arbitron's survey of commercial radio stations.
