Rare vintage posters available at New York auction Wednesday

Six rare Hawaii-related posters will be sold as part of a summer-themed Vintage Posters auction at Manhattan's Swann Galleries at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Hawaii highlights include:

art » A tan brunette wearing a pink lei and green grass skirt with an orange flower in her hair dancing the hula against a lavender background; lettering in yellow and white, created for United Airlines. Estimate: $500 to $750.

» A Hawaii Calls/American President Lines scene of an ocean liner, a beach and a luau in blue and red. Estimate: $500 to $700.

» A circa-1960 poster by Stan Galli for United Airlines, featuring a group in a canoe, wearing purple, yellow, green, blue and orange catching an enormous blue-green wave. In the distance, their beach resort is visible beneath green cliffs, with lettering in yellow and white. Estimate: $600 to $900.

The sale also offers World War I and II posters and rare 1921 posters for the Rudolph Valentino film "The Sheik."
