"Beast" and more
"WELCOME HOME, JIM!":
James Seibel, center, talked with Brent Yoshikami, left, Joey Caldarone, Guy Merola and Larry Paxton last Friday at the pre-show sponsors' reception for Diamond Head Theatre's production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." Seibel, a high-energy stage actor and cabaret performer here in the late 1980s and much of the '90s, is back for "a short visit." With luck someone will put together some kind of showcase gig for him before he leaves. Merola and his company Commercial Data Systems was one of the "Diamond Sponsors" of the DHT show. Yoshikami wraps up his Po'okela Award-worthy performance as Leontes in "The Winter's Tale" at the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival tonight at 7:30 and tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the UH-Manoa Ernst Lab Theatre.
Tim Guard joined his wife, "Beast" cast member Devon Guard, at Ryan's for the post-show cast party. She adds spice to the DHT show playing the enchanted French maid.
TIME TO CELEBRATE:
"Beast" ensemble performer John Tolentino, right, celebrated at Ryan's with party guests David Guard, Renee Noveck and Jamie Rolfsmeyer.
Elizabeth Harrison, left, partied with Yvette Nii. Harrison plays the enchantress who turns a prince into the Beast. Nii has several ensemble roles and is Devon Guard's understudy as Babette.
Robert Kekaula, left, Guy Hagi, Kim Gennaula and Bobby Curan pooled their culinary knowledge Saturday as judges for the Great Honolulu Rib Cook Off at the "Nuuanu Brews, Blues and BBQ" street party last weekend. Another judge, Star-Bulletin food editor Betty Shimabukuro, was inspecting the array of ribs and other delicacies when this photo was taken.
YOU'LL WANT THEIR SHIRTS!:
Lionel "Black Hawaiian" Wright, left, was joined by Jaclyn and Princeton Simeona of the Mount The Lion Fight Company, Julius Ledda of Deadly 808, and Eddie Laforga of Self-Taught T-Shirts in introducing new T-shirt designs Saturday night at the "Summer Massive" party at Compadres and E&O Trading in Ward Centre.
