ESPN’s ‘Prime Time’
Berman plays air guitar
on Maui visit

ESPN's colorful Chris Berman dined with a party of 18 at Compadres in Lahaina recently. Berman, ESPN's "NFL Prime Time" host who is known for his cool nicknames for players, is pals with Compadres G.M. Steve Austin and his wife, Ashlan. The previous night, Berman was at an L Dogg concert at a private home and played air guitar with the band. Berman and wife, Kathy, are building a house on Maui ...

Kahala Mandarin Oriental Food and Beverage Director Carlos Salazar plans to expand services at Kahala. A bar will be built in the Veranda and the bar in Plumeria will be renovated. A list of 40 wine selections by the glass will be included in bar service on the Veranda, where the Betty Loo Taylor Trio and singer Loretta Ables-Sayre perform. This is much needed. Twenty-five different martinis will be also available. Service will also be set up on the lanai area of the Veranda that overlooks the dolphin and swimming pools and fish ponds. A sound system will carry the live music to the lanai. The Oriental Tapas Bar in the Plumeria will have a chef preparing Asian tapas, which are smaller than appetizers. Tapas Bar work starts in September. The Veranda work is set for next year. The Kahala's John Ewing is handling public relations until a replacement for Vivienne Gan is hired ... Bob Longhi calls eating event a fine 'Taste'

Bob Longhi flew in from Maui for last month's "Taste of Honolulu" and was happy about the crowds at his Ala Moana Center eatery's booth. Longhi's won the Best Pasta award in the event. "The 'Taste' was the best thing we ever did to get better known on Oahu," he said. Longhi looks fit. He suffered a stroke last year and had a quadruple bypass. He has much praise for his doctors, Michael Dang and Edward Shen, and calls them his "Chinese Connection" ...

Korliss Uecker, here to appear in the Hawaii Opera Theatre's "Pirates of Penzance," took to the trails recently for a hike to Manoa Falls with her family. Korliss has spent 13 seasons with the Metropolitan Opera in New York, performing more than 100 roles. She will appear as Mabel in "Pirates," which opens Friday in Blaisdell Concert Hall ...
