The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.


Barnwell’s stock falls

Barnwell Industries Inc., the best performing local stock this year of those trading over $1, fell 8.2 percent this week to finish with the worst performance in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index.

The oil, natural gas and real estate company closed yesterday at $61.50 during a light-volume week but still is up 65.9 percent for the year.

Penny stock Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. had the best gain during the week at it rose 5.4 percent to 3.9 cents.

Hawaiian Holdings Inc., parent of Hawaiian Airlines, was next with an advance of 3.9 percent to $4.52.
